REST OF THE SPIRIT CONCLUDED

The rest of the spirit is not earned, it is given. The giver is Jesus Christ. You can’t get it anywhere else. It is an assurance of salvation, a confidence of where to spend eternity. This is the rest from the labor of trying to be good; to please God by mere works, rest from self-righteousness which is like a filthy rag in the sight of God. You are accepted in the beloved, your name written in the lamb’s book of life, you will become a child of God.

Many however are still running away from Him. They want to come for the things they know He can do for them, they want the gifts and not the giver. They are approaching Him on their own terms and not on His. Multitudes want Him to supply them with strength to carry the load of unrest rather than for Him to carry it away for them. They are hiding their issues yet they want miracles to happen in their lives. To have genuine rest of the spirit, you need to come to Him. You must be deliberate about it. Coming to Him will lead to an attachment to Him, this is what many are afraid of. When Jesus takes away the burden of unrest, He will put another burden and yoke in place. His burden which is light is to keep us focused on not living for ourselves but for God and His grand purpose for our lives. And His easy yoke is to keep us perpetually in His presence far away from every evil. It is the restrain our lives need to keep the enemy at bay. More about this in subsequent chapters.

When we are not saved, it is never a struggle to do evil. Why? The reason is that we are slaves to whomsoever we yield ourselves to obey. As a slave, you are bound to obey your master. For a man whose spirit is un-regenerated, obeying sin is natural since that is his or her master. The natural consequence of this is the absence of rest. Anyone without Christ can never enjoy the rest of the spirit. It is with Jesus and it is for the regenerated spirit.

Right now, Jesus is asking you, will you come? Can you open to Him the issues that has burdened you for so long? The lust, immorality, pride, covetousness, wickedness, or any other thing that has been defiling you? Can you lead Him to where you have been hiding them? Can you tell Him where you gave up about that specific matter; thinking such can never be dealt with again, and you think you will carry it as a burden forever? This moment, God wants to give you rest. It is the focus of God in sending Jesus Christ to bear the burden in your place. All you should do is to come to Him in surrender and accept what He is willing to give to you. Hear what the Bible says:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17) Will you accept this offer or reject it? To have peace and rest within, you need to come to Him, acknowledge your sins and confess them, acknowledge His death and resurrection for your salvation and receive Him as your Lord and Savior. If you do this genuinely, then you are redeemed. You are now a regenerated spirit and the rest of God is released into your spirit. Congratulations on your regeneration.
